Craft for Every Space

Restoration That Made a Difference

Some years ago, a college student I taught who worked with me in the summers asked me to help his mom with a kitchen restoration project. She’d been a school teacher and had saved a little sum for her dream kitchen, but all the contractors were five to ten times over her budget. So Homewoood Victorian Restorations came to the rescue! The pictures aren’t great quality, but they show how reimagining the space, keeping the existing cabinet carcass, and rebuilding new doors and hardware, along with some creative design changes, really gave this kitchen a beautiful lift.

Designed for Better Living

While living in small apartments in graduate school and after, I was forced to find some creative custom storage solutions. Two items that helped life function beautifully are the Homewoood Victorian Kitchen Island and the Homewoood Victorian Trunk & Table. Many Victorian and vintage homes do not have a lot of cabinets, closets, or storage spaces, and the kitchen island can offer a beautiful architectural element when fully loaded with plateware, wine bottles, glasses, pot lids, large racks, and kitchen tools. It also stops a lot of wine glasses from getting broken as they go right into the rack to hang dry! The materials are solid maple, so it is an heirloom piece of furniture, and the butcher block working surface is easily refinished after all the knife work and dinner parties put some wear into it!

Made for Smaller Spaces

The Homewoood Victorian Trunk & Table was a custom storage solution for a small space when the couch served as the “guest room.” Not only did the floating tabletops slide to make entertaining easy, but the trunk element stored all the linens, blankets, and pillows, so voila! Easy peasy to set up for a guest and to restore in the AM. Many Victorian and vintage homes do not have a lot of closet storage space, so this is a beautiful and functional solution. The carvings on this piece were custom, so imagine yours without them or with your own design.

Kitchen Restoration

Some years ago a college student I taught who worked with me in the summers asked me to help his mom with a kitchen restoration project.  She’d been a school teacher and had saved a little sum for her dream kitchen, but all the contractors were five to ten times over her budget.  So Homewood Victorian came to the rescue!  The pictures aren’t great quality, but they show how re-imagining the space, keeping the existing cabinet carcass, rebuilding new doors and hardware, along with some creative design changes, really gave this kitchen a beautiful lift.

Homewood Victorian Kitchen Island

While living in small apartments in graduate school and after, I was forced to find some creative custom storage solutions.  Two items that helped life function beautifully is the Homewood Victorian Kitchen Island and the Homewood Victorian Trunk & Table.  Many Victorian and vintage homes do not have a lot of cabinet, closet or storage spaces, and the Kitchen Island can offer a beautiful architectural element when fully loaded with plateware, wine bottles, glasses, pot lids, large racks, and kitchen tools.  It also stops a lot of wine glasses from getting broken as they go right into the rack to hang dry!  The materials are solid Maple, so an Heirloom piece of furniture and the butcher block working surface is easily refinished after all the knife work and dinner parties put some wear into it!

If the Island is on a mobile kit, then it’s super easy to move to the center of the space while preparing meals, and it’s designed so two can work from either side.  When done, it’s easy to roll to the wall so the kids can run crazy and the music and dancing can start!
